The Andover Health Centre Medical Practice provides all its patients with a named, accountable GP.

Does this mean the accountable GP will provide 24 hour responsibility for you?

No. Your named GP will not:

  • Take on vicarious responsibility for the work of other doctors or health professionals

  • Take on 24-hour responsibility for you, or have to change their working hours. The requirement does not imply personal availability for GPs throughout the working week

  • Be the only GP or clinician who will provide care for you

Does this mean you will have to see your named GP when you book an appointment at the Practice?

  • You can choose to see any GP or nurse in the Practice in line with our current arrangements.

However we would encourage you to book routine appointments and phone calls with your named accountable GP whenever possible.

Can you choose your own named GP?

All patients currently have a named GP. However if you request to be registered with a particular GP every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate your preference. Requests to change GPs should be in writing to the Practice Manager stating your reason for the request.
